Pain & Abnormal Movement Patterns

An abnormal movement pattern is any change in action, coordination and/or control of one or more muscles that differs from normal.

In the presence of pain, changes in muscle activation patterns almost always occur. This results in imbalances in the way various muscles are controlled, as well as abnormal recruitment and sequencing of muscles during functional movements. Some scientists think that pain is the initiating factor that causes abnormal muscle control and abnormal movement patterns. Others have shown that such altered patterns of muscle control exists prior to pain. It has been suggested that faulty neural muscle reflexes predispose people to the development of pain and/or injuries.

A classic 🐔 or 🥚

Regardless of whether the initial cause of the issue was the pain itself or the dysfunctional recruitment pattern (abnormal movement pattern) of muscles, it's been shown that correcting the spine appears to be a bit like rebooting the computer. Small 'glitches' you were having can immediately disappear. The short rapid stretch of spinal joints caused through Chiropractic Structural Correction re-establishes the correct connection between the central nervous system and our sensory organs (of which our muscles are a major component), giving the brain a more accurate understanding and control of the body.
